I bought the new chromecast exited about using the "For You" features, as everybody says it's its main software advantage over other streamers. I was disappointed to learn than in my country, as in many others, this feature isn't supported. I think it is important to talk in this kind of videos about worldwide feature compatability since you are the main source of tech info for so many people. I admit I should have checked this myself, but the short research I did on this item didn't bring this up.

I had to upgrade mine because of it not supporting ipv6 also it's stronger than our old router and I know it is faster than the old one plus I can manage devices connected now I upgraded mine before the chrome cast with google tv was announced

Looking at your dongle (that didn't sound as dirty in my head) it makes me think maybe they should just add some extra USB ports by default. Seems like it would be a good place to hook up some other low power peripheries. Maybe pair it with some receiver add-ons so you can send a signal to your speakers, or receive from multiple sources (my brother, for instance, has a thousand DVDs that he isn't going to spend money digitizing but a DVD-Blueray player that could network through the Chrome stick wirelessly would be cool.

I'm surprised Linus didn't talk about how it compares with various smart TVs. Is it worth it as a replacement for the built in android os that TVs from Sony, Samsung and LG run? My Sony can be a little finicky with some apps like Plex, interested to know if this would be worth it for that. Also does it support CEC? There's no way I could expect my wife to deal with yet another remote control.

And I just tested and found out that casting your photos/videos from google photos it casts it at freking 720p... What kind of shit is this? We are in 2021, if my Hi-res photos are cast at 720.. what's the frekin use? Test it you will see.... it's frekin hurrendous, you see image pixelating/over correcting.. on a 4k tv it's un watchable. So I just use my integrated browser with my LG and log directly into my google photos and the quality is then like it should be. Not even using the CC anymore...Honestly, the only advantage I had on it was sideloading kodi. Now I just run the Plex app of my TV. I really wanted to give CC a chance...

Is anyone having wifi connection loss issues? I have three apple tv's around the house (all on the same wifi and working great) and when I finished my outside area, I bought the Chromecast with google tv running off my google wifi nest but my google tv can't seem to keep a connection with my google wifi mesh and it's turning into a horrible experience. Any suggestions?

Hard no. No DTS-HD support (or DTS:X, DTS, etc), surround sound issues galore even in Netflix (search on the Google forums), and a heavy push to rent/buy almost everything on the home screen even if you have 5-6 services connected. You're better off with a Roku or Firestick.

I love love love our Chrome Cast. But when we upgraded to this one we have had nothing but problems with it! It constantly disconnects from our internet which is literally beside the tv. A problem we never had with our first chrome cast. Apparently tons of people are having this issue as well. I’d love to see a video regarding a review from using it for the last month or so if you noticed any changes or glitches too!

Looks sleek until you need more than basic functions band you endup with an octopus behind tw with 20 connectio points all willing to disconnect. Or worse a octopus on your tv bench

But can you use the rewind and fast forward buttons from the tv remote? Chromecast advertised that it had CEC function but only the pause button works and if you need to rewind or fast forward you need to pull the phone out. Which sucks, a simple task made so much harder than it should be.

Doesn't the SHIELD still not support VP9 hardware decoding? Let alone profile 2, which is also well supported nowadays? That's a good reason to go with the Google TV if it has VP9.

My first Chromecast sucked and I bet the new one does as well. Only got it to use for streaming my phone's screen and movies already saved on my phone. But it refuses to even link to anything unless it first saw an internet connection so that it could dump user data to Google. Why should we pay for Google to install another spy portal in our homes?

I'm moving away from Comcast/Xfinity X1 triple play which costs about $300/mo (crept up from about $225 over the years). I just had Centurylink 940/940Mb fiber installed.. I still want live TV + DVR, so I first tried AT&T TV and frankly it sucks. Their Android TV interface is slow and klunky, and the live channel DVR buffer disappears any time I switch apps or even move into the menus and back about half the time. The promo pricing is attractive ($55-65/mo), but after 12/mo it's $90-110/mo to get the basic channels I want + $15/mo HBO Max. Early cancellation fee is worthy of Xfinity. ($15/mo for the months remaining in 2 year contract. Luckily I can cancel inside 2 weeks, and I will). Today I picked up Chromecast with Google TV and it's a breath of fresh air. It's very fast and responsive, and Google Assistant is well integrated with all the streaming apps. Any cord cutter should be happy with it out of the box. If you're using almost any existing integrated Android TV, this will generally work better/faster. I added CScrone TV to get live local and basic channels and DVR. It too is well integrated into the main interface. The live TV DVR buffer does not go away even when I open other streaming apps, and CScrone etc (although it won't remember where I paused).. The only real annoyance I've found is that if I do go into the menus or another app, and want to get back to my live channel.. hitting Back won't do it. It always ends up back at the home screen, or top of list of live channels and I have to reselect the show I'm watching. It retains the the ever growing DVR buffer so it knows what channel I'm on. Just wish there was a way to get back there in one/two button presses, or a single voice command. Only been a day, but I'm happy so far. All up.. it'll be $65/mo for Centurylink fiber + $65/mo for CScrone TV + $15/mo for HBO Max = $145/mo versus the $300/mo I'm paying now.. (not counting Netflix/Disney+/Hulu which are add-ons to all the options). Will be porting my work landline to (or just dropping the old number and moving to) Google Voice with an OBI200 box.

It's an awful implementation of chromecast. Try casting netflix from your phone. You can't. Instead it pops up the netflix app and you MUST use the remote. Third grade effort at an upgrade

Noooo stadia is amazing! Destiny and cyberpunk MUCH better than only my ps4. Recently switched and enjoying it! I highly recommend using your own router, not your ISPs if using Stadia though

So you need a smart TV (specifically an Android OS, not one running Tizen or WebOS) to use Google TV? I know you can use chromecast on nonsmart TVs, but I was kind of hoping that it would work with Google TV too... I'm confused because everyone keeps saying Google TV UI is just a skin on top of Android TV so that makes me think you need Android OS TV to use it, but I see other answers saying you can use it as long as you have HDMI port and wifi... but does that mean you can only use the chromecast part (better to just buy their 3rd gen chromecast dongle on a non-smart TV and save $20?) or do you also get the Google TV user interface and basically everything it has to offer?

While the CC with GoogleTV is.nice enough, it isn't capable of correctly playing Video, so... it's essentially useless. Any Video Streamer should at least manage to play 24p content at 24, 25p Content at 25 and 50p Content at 50p. Sadly, almost none of them actually does that. The AppleTV 4K does it on many (but not all) apps. ShieldTV doesn't, GoogleTV doesnt, FireTV does it only on Prime Content...what is wrong with these manufacturers?

I honestly don’t blame game streaming (stadia, xcloud, etc) because they aren’t supported so they can’t optimize it and fix problems. I don’t think google will drop it because they can’t fix and optimize it for slower internet and make games run really good. I play stadia on a crappy pc and it’s actually not as bad as you guys make out to be.... only problem I have with it is the library 🤣

All ive ever wanted was the ability to create a playlist of movies or particular episodes of different shows and have it just play them! Netflix still cant do it and has only just added the feature to stop that annoying thing popping up every 2 episodes asking if im watching even though the tv is in and of course im watching! But I still have to select "yes and dont ask me again" so you can't even just select it at the beginning! I have to connect an external drive that ive preloaded with stuff from a laptop and create folders in that. Just give me playlists!

It's a shame corporate culture doesn't allow for truth. Being in the business myself, I csn tell you all you need is a Chromecast plus a smartphone. I csn tell you how to get all your movies and shows for free. I can tell you how to save huge on your internet bill. I can tell you what a waste of money and time Netflix really is. How many views you think that would get me if I showed people how to save money, plus get everything they want for free? Such a shame you have to lie to people just to make a few selfish bucks yourself on CScrone.
