Dell is definitely the worst. Bought my laptop from them and I will never buy from them again. My laptop started having wireless issues about 9 months in. I contacted support to get a replacement under warranty, but it was a never end cycle of useless phone calls and copy-pasted emails. They managed to stall the last 3 months of the warranty and then basically gave me a "too bad, you're warranty is expired now" response. It's a terrible brand with terrible hardware and worse support.

I hate to say is better than it used to be. I got a ryzen 3700 for 550 and nvme 256. Wish it was bigger and had more ram (8gb) but the speed roughly tripled when I upgraded ram

I really like the iBuy setup. I'd really like to try building it, but as my first gaming PC is it better to go with their assembly/warranty/tech-support? I remember they had a low mark-up but just curious if building a PC is as easy and Linus and the crew make it seem? Also really like the Maingear, but what would you upgrade in order to compete with the iBuy performance?

I hate how many large companies Dell has somehow convinced into only buying their products. Our younger IT guys at work game and love AMD stuff and when I asked about AMD powered workstations they said “not an option through dell so you’ll never see us buy anything AMD powered here.” They will go the way of intel by completely ignoring the consumer markets and resting on big corporate demand as if it will exist forever.

Your Dell criticism was appropriately harsh given how infuriatingly bad they were. I'm glad you didn't water down the verdict as that would have been extremely frustrating to stomach after how terribly the rep behaved. I was throwing my hands up in disbelief and, like you, anger at how terrible their constant financing and warranty harassment was. And that tech support was hopeless.

Also why the hell are you paying for a z390 motherboard and an AIO watercooler for a non overclockable CPU. A noctua air cooler would have been enough. That alone is 300$ or more. AT THE TIME THIS WAS SHOT.

I actively avoid Dell. The pc I grew up with was a dell desktop. I remember wanting to upgrade it when I was obsessed with pc components in high school, but was disappointed with the lack of that ability due to the proprietary components. I also remember calling their tech support and it being GOD AWFUL

The HP power issue also affects HP gaming laptops... It's a garbage performance experience... I have a 9750H that throttles to 0.79GHz immediately you load more than one core.

There is an Intel driver that does that, it used to happen to me with a Precision 5520. Look in google how to uninstall Intel Thermal Drivers.

To be fair to HP, though their throttling issues are unfortunate, they still performed very comparably to CyberpowerPC (and not far off iBuyPower), with an overall difference of a couple of a few percentage points either way depending on the game. Great series - I think next time you might want to 1)try multiple different price points and/or 2)rank them on different use cases

I don't understand how this video series is accurate at all. It is literally impossible to contact ibuypower. I submitted an order with ibuypower based on the results of this video. They asked me to call them to confirm my shipping address. 3 days later, multiple emails, tickets, and 40+ phone calls and I was never able to call a line that wasn't busy. I don't understand how you didn't experience the same problems. Everyone I see on the forums are in the same boat as I am. Had to cancel my order through a form only available on discord. Crazy...

I bought a $2,000 Dell laptop, they lied to me about the processor. Going to device manager I found processor and graphics was not what I paid for. This Dell lasted me for 1 year, started burning at the power port. I had one of the first Sony Vaio Celeron processor and still running like new!

When I was young, the best company was Dell, they had the best computers and customer service, but somewhere around 15 years ago, they became pretty bad. My uncle was an electrical engineer, and he built PCs in his free time, and the only companies he liked that pre-built the computers was Howard Industries (A local company that makes transformers for electrical companies mainly) and Dell. That was almost 20 years ago, though.

I had an HP too and it should have been a toaster cuz it could get hot enough to have the case feel like a stove and the fans were not adequate in size nor control and all the innards were proprietary. They are like the McDonald's of Computers. And IbuyPower and Cyberpower are more Like Chic-fil-a... they just get things right for a bit more.

LTT, just to updates: 1. You can connect atx psu to Dell motherboard by 8pin to 24pin adapter. 2. Gtx 1660 supports rtx voice(by little hack but works superb).

I got a pc from dell a couple years ago and my memory was locked to 2133mhz... and i didn't figure that out until i had to get new ram because the shit it came with stopped working. The pc all around sucks.

I would personally go with the Maingear. It performed well enough and the overall experience was the best. If you are that person who cares about an extra few FPS they wouldn't likely be buying pre built system. For a non tech person Maingear is worth the markup.

Appreciate people like you keeping 'em honest, Linus! SO satisfying to see you go after Dell. I actually built a round of custom systems for work after getting the first two from Dell. We somehow ended up with two Dell accounts, and they refused to merge then in order to simplify support in the future. I got off the phone, pulled up NewEgg, spec'ed out a better system for less money, and built half a dozen of them myself (which I like doing anyway!). I like the Dell monitors because of their addon speakers that offer good audio without the desk clutter, and I like some of their laptops that I've used. That's it. P.S. I also bought a Lenovo for the next laptop we needed as well. Gotta take care of your customers!
