That's the GPU i'm going for. Benchmark says it's slightly worse than the i7-10700k for half the price. Bottleneck calculator says the RTX3070 is a bottleneck in the system. And you get cheap motherboards from reputable manufacturers capable of supporting 4600MHz DDR4s. Simply put, great performance for a great price and future proof to boot. Too bad the GPU shortage is making them cost insane ammounts of money, else I'd have went for a new pc already. Means I can wait for them to move on with the AM4 socket and be even more future proofed getting next gen processors.

I just went for an i7 9700k because the 5 3600 were 1. out of stock 2. Ryzens Were actually more expensive 3. The intel was on sale 4. The intel came with free software and crysis remastered 5. It was in stock 6. I am a pro intel person 7. They ran cooler from my experience

1. Intel is still stuck on 14nm process 2. Most of Intel's processors have only 4 cores

I got the Ryzen 5 1600, which is pretty much 2 generations older than the current ones, and I was so glad I did because it featured 6 cores compared to Intel Core i5's equivalent of 4 cores at the time! That CPU is still running stong in my desktop!

@klampz I don't have anything other than the stock cooler. CSGO and Rocket League were made to run low end specs since they're E-Sports titles, I don't have RDR2, but I have played Rainbow 6 and the frames have rendered very fine as well. Actually, if anything I should be upgrading my GPU.

@AwesomeShite You should take some Ryzen Master tutorials on CScrone, you can OC your CPU so it draws less power from your PSU

@AwesomeShite There is a big performance boost in CPU demanding games like CSGO, RDR2, R6, Rocket League and more... If you want to render videos or photos faster you should OC, but you will need a better cooler than a stock one

I used only intel processors for many years. Until last year when a bad power supply took out my motherboard and Core i5. I normally do my own work, but I wanted a second opinion, so I ran it by a shop i had done business with in the past. He confirmed my diagnosis and offered to do an upgrade for me. I ended up with an MSI A320 Pro-M2 board and a Ryzen 5 2600 and 8 gigs of ram, not to mention a new case. Well new to me. Used my leftovers,power supply, hard drives,and what seems to be an oddball AMD Radeon Rx 550 2GB OC LP graphics card I picked up for $25 on Merari. Blew my old system away. I couldn't believe it. Plus all the OC options available, wow. I have moved my OS to an SSD Card, and swapped in 16GB of some Samsung DDR4 ram. It may not be a top of the line computer, but eats intels for lunch. When taxes come I may swap out the board with a B series and go up to a Ryzen 7. But until then, I good.

It cost me just over $900 to build a pc using a ryzen 3600 with a used 1080ti. I'm lucky enough to live near a Microcenter though the lines were horrible and I reused my case and psu. First computer build since 2011. It's not a powerhouse, but will work fine for a while.

Crazy to see Linus praising AMD. Back when I invested in AMD stock in the summer of 2016, no one believed in Lisa, Zen, The Team. I jumped in the second I knew Jim Keller designed the Zen architecture and had to "patiently" sit till summer of 2018 listening to all but a few PC reviewers here on you tube hate hate hate on AMD. All you had to do was look at the Zen architecture to see they were catching up fast and would surpass with the new architecture when nodes shrank to 12, 12 + and 7, 7+. Now, everyone (not Linus necessarily …although he was late to the game and didn't see it for awhile) is like …. "yeah I knew they would do it... etc." Funny. I am immensely happy not only because my $5 per share stock is now in the $90 per share range, but also that there is competition again. Intel failed to crush this time despite having the mouthpiece of most of CScrone, Seeking Alpha writers, paid hit pieces, etc. #$%^ you Mark Hibben! People that listened to these "professionals" missed out on a life changing investment. I said it then in 2016: Competition keeps people honest and innovating. Love it! $ATOM ... we will see how this tech will impact things next!

I have a slightly off topic comment/question. Why are CPUs so expensive to the home computer builder? You can sometimes buy the whole computer for less that the price of a CPU/motherboard combo. Ok, so the obvious answer is volume purchasing and low labour costs (ie slave labour), and I get that. But why such a huge disparity? Are the CPU manufacturers in bed with the computer makers to discourage home building? Or are they just doing it because they can get away with it? Id love to hear your thoughts on this.

So the first thing I did when I got this cpu was test how fast it can render in Blender Cycles. Turns out it can easily outperform my GTX 970 in cycles rendering, which is nuts. I suspect that might be due to it's high thread count.

Actually, I'm wondering that myself. I just got a I5 10600KF for 170$. Considering I can't find a R5 3600 for the same price, and the 10600KF seems to beat it in EVERY benchmark, specifically gaming, I'm not really sure why I should have looked for a 3600. There's the question of future upgradability. Although I hope it's several years from now, and it's not 100% sure AMD socket won't ever change either.
