I Estimate that Qualcom, when they work together with MS they will be at the Power/Performance level where Apple is now in about 2-3 years. By then Apple will have their M3 and M3x SOC's Since Apple gains single core performance by about 20% each generation on the A series, single core performance will be 44% faster with the M3. Intel is in trouble.

in long term, the apple approach will fail, MS, Qualcomm, Nvdia and Co will win this market. but no worries, apple will be fine keeping milking their gullible users further. it's just won't be "domination" as it never was. they voluntarily choose to be a niche for those, who are ready to pay extras for a stupid logo. they might make this chip a standalone product, sell it and become a strong ARM vendor, but they chose to lock it down as much as possible. as result, all its spectacular performance becomes uninteresting - it's a black box, soon, it will so be overcome in performance by the competitors, but they will not be a "we make it all and you just get your money" thing, their things will be building blocks, just like in the x86 market, and we will see competition, in CPUs, motherboards, end user devices and even OSs, of course, if the tiny linux desktop share can be considered competitive. xD whereas this all-apple-only thing is really interesting for only apple fans in the end of the day. and the poor x86 emulation. pfff, come on! it is important at this early stage, but making of it a central point - is a heavy overestimation. why then bother with ARM at all if all you want is to run x86 binaries? let third parties refactor their user mode sh1t to not rely on the CPU, or just add the ARM support!

@npgoalkeeper _ the software is there. But like EVERYONE else they’re updating their OS but before they do, they’re releasing the DEVELOPER version to work out the bugs and other issues. The point I was making was that he’s comparing certain features that have been fully released on one OS to another that’s still in BETA. He should wait until the completed version is released to the public then compare the two.

Short answer, SQ2 is a much weaker processor what exactly do you expect ? Next iteration will be different, they will probably use much more powerful arm based processors.

You missed the reason to love Surface Pro X - LTE unlimited tablet plans. Once Apple adds LTE, it better yet 5G, then they will have won the battle. The dual 4k displays os why IPad Pro can't compete with Surface Pro X.

I would buy Surface tablet on Windows. But there is no any good to replace iPad Air 2. It has to be 4:3. It has to be thin, no more than 6,5 mm. It doesnt need to have stand. It has to use UFS memory, not laggy eMMC, edge touch protection, like iOS, relative good platform, with at least 2 high performance cores etc etc. And cost no more than $375-400.

The surface pro line has been a good one for people on-the-go who want a tablet-laptop hybrid but it’s not gonna keep up like this. I have an old SP5 that has served me very well but I’m going to replace it soon because it can’t run the right CAD software well enough and I’m going elsewhere.

Not impressed by the cinebench values. My Ryzen Mobile Chip has the same performance as the M1 and I don't have to worry about compatibility issues. Maybe ARM will be interesting in a few years. And as always, desktop performance is far superior.

Google is the reason Chrome for ARM hasn't been released on Windows yet. Qualcomm has been very interested in the PC market picking up their chips, so they worked together with manufacturers, Microsoft, and various developers to get applications running on their platform. Notably, they worked out all the kinks of running Chrome on Windows 10 ARM a long time ago, but some internal nonsense is keeping Google from publishing it. Edge works perfectly on Windows 10 ARM, and it's overarchingly the same codebase.

IA32/x86 should have died 20 years ago. amd64/x64 should have never happened. Which is why IA64 is the Itanium line and not 64bit x86, and why Intel is using AMDs architecture for 64 bit. I say good riddance to bad garbage.

Just shows you the power of software I actually thought about picking one of the m1 laptops up. I have been using iPhones since the beginning but never owned a mac. I love gaming so its been pc for me and thats not gonna change. But the biggest downside to me is no discrete gpu. I want i laptop that’s really small had a metal frame and good battery and something like a 1650 super. I have 3 laptops now a 8750h 32gb’s ram, 1070, i5 7200u i use for school and a old dell precision m6500 with a i7 920xm and ati firepro gpu. I can’t get rid of the old thing its pretty much useless now but once it was a beast and its still in mint condition.

@Agwali been thinking about picking up the new msi stealth with the i7 11375h and a 3060 max q or the acer predator triton se only difference is the 3060’s non max q. Just want a smaller laptop think their both 14in all metal frame and decent gaming performance. I think the mobile 3060 should have mobile 2070s performance. And while the new i7 is only 4 core 8 threads its ipc is improved and it can take a single core to 5ghz 2 to 4.6ghz and all 4 to 4.3ghz. They won’t be out until February or March though just seems like a nice little package for 1400-1500.

Simple difference really, microsofts arm was treated as a side project while apple basically said to developers you have a max of 2 years to transition to arm mac or youre f***ed. Which I’m all for.

This really shows how in-house development like what Apple did can resulted in much better performance because the ecosystem is completely closed source. Microsoft, on the other hand, have to rely on third-party manufacturer to make the chipset and make sure that it work well with Windows 10 and... it's not always gone well.

What I really like about Samsung Galaxy Book S, I can increase my storage on the fly by just sliding out the sim card tray no tool needed and popping in a microsd card up to 2T. Or hotswap one with my phone, without opening up my system too install a larger hard drive.

I use Libre Office for my office suite. Then I have Samsung Note which I use on my phone too. Of course, DEX work and the other Samsung apps. It's a great experience.

My ARM laptop has LTE and a touchscreen. I use 5 browsers on average, 11 tabs open in this one alone. Runs Brave, Iron, Ice Dragon, Comodo Dragon, Valvedi, Opera and Firefox. I use Cyberlink PowerDirector for video editing came bundled with a screen recorder. However, I also use Debut screen recorder sometimes. Edraw Suite as my drawing app, runs beautifully. All the normal entertainment stuff...Hulu, Spotify, Netflix, Amazon Prime.

Apple’s MO has always boiled down to being the first to do things successfully. They are rarely the first to try, but few remember the failures. For every game-changing Apple product (and there are a frankly stupid number to choose from at this point), there are always earlier disasters from would-be competitors. Then everyone drops what they were doing and shamelessly copies Apple, and that’s the new status quo.

Microsoft vs. Apple will rage on, with this round going to Apple. But the clear loser here is Intel. It's not about whether or not Intel can get it's act together and produce better chip. Their whole business model just got trashed. (Their client computing segment makes up more than 50% of Intel revenues for all you smart asses who want to point out that only a tiny bit of Intel chips make their way into Surface and MacBook. That's not the point. The point is, x86 is going the way of the dodo with regard to mobile computing.)

Considering Apple makes the SoC m1(basically a black box to us) & the OS which via Rosetta runs x86/64, isn't it possible they may have included secretly hardware acceleration capabilities(for x86/64) in m1 that only macOS can leverage? If it were true, Apple may owe intel/AMD license fees for implementing x86/64 support in hardware.Since it's all proprietary closed source/design, there's little way for us to figure out if its true, and Apple can get away with not having to pay intel. Qualcomm & Windows on the other hand, make only the SoC & OS respectively separately, and if they needed to implement x86/64 hardware support, they would have to publish this openly, and need a very expensive(if at all attainable) license from intel, or face IP infringement lawsuits(back when Windows ARM started MS/Qualcomm actually hinted at possible hardware support in SoC for x86, but Intel threatened lawsuits). Hence software level support is the only option which will obviously be less fluid.

This is interesting, the raspberrypi was released 29 February 2012, Windows 10 mobile jan 2012, and the raspberry pi can fully run raspbian, a desktop operating system(pi is arm) and can fully run apt packages, is Linux

I cannot replace PC with an iPad. Take browser for example. If I want to compare 2 pages side by side, on Windows, I can ctrl+n, alt+d, type something, enter, win+left, ctrl+n, alt+d, type something, enter, win+right. On iPad....................... There's no menu key on iPad too. How about clicking a link during MS Teams meeting?

Most reviewers have been misleading the public by giving the credit of M1 performance to RISC. All the companies and chip makers know that the jump by M1 is not just because it used a RISC chip. Apple has been using the A-series RISC chips for over 10 years on iOS devices. It is because Apple used 5 nm and soon 3 nm CPU cores, which allowed them to pack RAM and H1 on the M1. They showed that their RAM management is much better. Their GPU is as good as the Nvidia Chips. I have been using an M1 Macbook for nearly a month now. It is faster than all my Macbook Pro 15”, 13”, and 16”. It is faster than my friend’s 16” Macbook Pro, my 2020 desktop iMac. It runs all the programs that I have. This is not just because M1 is a RISC Chip. It is a much better RISC chip than Snapdragon, AMD, and other RISC chips.

There are plenty issues that need to be fixed on the M1 like that of JetBrains and their products. I can't use the M1 because they don't have any real fixes to some great IDEs yet as far as I know. No problems with Windows machines. And let's face it, the world is becoming coders.

Just I didn't get that well, do you mean that most of the apps runs wrongly or not at all in Pro X? I am doing my jobs with Microsoft Office as I am writing too much and prepare slides for my lectures!!. So clearly, do the Office run properly on Pro X as I want to purchase a new Windows based Laptop?. Any one's answer is vital to me in order not to spend my money in the wrong device.

The reality of this whole video is this though...... Microsoft is selling a tablet........ Apple is selling a laptop (no touchscreen laptop by the way)........... But the biggest factor.... Both of these machines are emulating and not running full versions of their operating systems. Microsoft has full Intel tablets in the surface pro, and well.......... Apple meanwhile released a Chromebook comparison of their Macbooks (not full operating system version +still no touchscreen, at least Chromebooks give you that). Whole performance is good, it's still emulation versions, and the processor is mostly just running apps. So it's a gigantic phone.

So, what happens to Intel now? They are losing their supremacy in every front. [✓] Windows desktop market: general (Ryzen 1000-3000) / gaming (Ryzen 5000) [✓] Windows laptop market (Ryzen 4000) [✓] Server market (EPYC) [✓] Embedded systems (ARM) [✓] Apple (M1) And within this decade, x86 might become a thing of the past. Intel better start innovating, or they are gonna die. I'd also like to know what AMD will do now.

The problem here is that Apple is going all-in, while Microsoft is not. Apple develops the whole stack, so they can afford to do that; within Apple, this wasn't an attempt made by a small group of engineers in the company. Apple was fully focused on this transition. In Microsoft, they probably only made a small team dedicated to Windows on ARM and that's it; with the few resources invested, these guys can only focus on making it work, not on making it work well. And unfortunately, they have no one in their team partnering with chip manufacturers to deliver improvements to the chips. Perhaps now after seeing the success of the M1, Microsoft will invest more on ARM, including partnerships, and in a few years we might have decent laptops with Windows on ARM, as well as better software compatibility.
