mate, I don't believe they should buy a licence because it is free marketing for the developers. COD, Fortnight, World Of Warcraft and a spat full of others wouldn't be able to have the sales they get or even the people they have subscribe to their games if it were not for the streamers. I myself treat the streamers as a window shop/try before you buy which in turn helps my decision process and if I buy the game, the developer gets his dosh. BANG BANG!!

Idea for a future video... My last pc build was probably 11years ago before I ended up needing a disc in neck fused and then we realised our son was autistic so needed to give up work. Anyway there may be a chance can build a PC soon due to a small amount of inheritance (if enough left after bills). Now the idea for a vid..... in my early days we used cards for everything as there wasn’t other options. Even once we could get things built in us gamers/serious users looked for quality boards without all the built in crap and used dedicated cards (dedicated hardware) as they were better, more reliable and took load off cpu as hardware was doing the job. Even 11 years ago it was possible to find a motherboard that was at least low on the built in crap bu it was getting harder. I know stuff can be disabled but I still like a motherboard that concentrates on being the best at its main task and not filled with extras. The challenge. Can you still buy high quality motherboards with no added not necessary features? If not are there any high quality server style boards fit that bill without loosing features that are beneficial to a gamer??! If there is how about a showdown. Build gamer pc with motherboard that has all the crap onboard. Build another to same/equiv cpu (or as close as poss) but which doesn’t have the built in rubbish then use cards for sound, wi-if, potentially Ethernet and graphics (and if cooling needs to be diff to copy with the cards make it so they both have a similar cpu temp), if you had to go server style board as no consumer ones without all the added rubbish and it comes with more men channels than desktop then have same total ram but use all the channels (if have to take that route and more channels are avail may as well see if helps - actually maybe one run with same ram total and same no of channels and another with same ram and all channels so we can see if ram offers an advantage but also see if dedicated cards offer an advantage) Then have fun and stress and benchmark the crap out of them to see if all the built in stuff is good or if proper well build dedicated hardware still has an edge, or if it has an edge but not enough to worry. I honestly am surprised that they are so surprised that a Google employee would have such a bigoted opinion. It's yet another symptom of a long running cultural problem of elitism at Google. They actually think that user feedback doesn't matter because they know better, this is so obvious in the latest changes to their products. They're worse than Apple because they have the elitist bigotry but they aren't open about it and lie about it unlike Apple.

Heres the problem, streamers and youtubers can't afford to pay for large amounts of music liscense and theres not enough money to be made selling to this demographic by record labels and music streaming services. Like seriously why would they even bother? How much money would they actually make from a more accessible system for streamers and youtubers? It would only decrease the amount of money they make from companies that can actually pay for music like advertising firms, streaming services, tv and film studios, and radio. You can't devalue your product for one group but not the others.

Your point about single player games is mute... look at SW Jedi Fallen Order... if the single player game is good enough, no matter if people stream it, other people will want to buy and play it. Wanting a license to stream a game I've purchased just makes you greedy! Go work for EA.

@30:20 You'd want to create a PDF from excel if you use excel for book keeping and use it to generate invoices. That way you can send people PDFs of the invoice that can't be edited by them. Maybe there's a better way to do that but it's what I've used for 15 years and I'm not changing now.

It's pretty obvious that he doesn't see the artist as having a right to claim copyright on a fan art of his character. It's a very common belief that fan art isn't covered by fair use or any other clause that gives the artist credit since it's not their original creation from scratch.

I watched a playthrough of Remedy's _Control_ so I could stay in the loop with the GOTY conversation. I never expected to be able to play it on NSwitch. Now it's possible to stream it to NSwitch but I don't have the motivation to buy it myself. I see where the devs are coming from.

A comment on the narrative story heavy game streams: Honestly out of all types of games, I'm most inclined to NOT watch a narrative game on stream, or perhaps watch the first episode only and then buy it myself, specifically because I don't want to experience it in a streamed format. I'm doing that right now with Amnesia Rebirth, which isn't even a narrative-only game, there's a lot of horror-spook value you get out of playing horror games that you don't necessarily get out of watching it. I'm gonna buy the game, play it, and then watch my favorite streamers play it later. I don't think that's so unusual for streaming fans, really, especially for games like that.

Music on youtube currently works like you stream just as anyone else, but immediately after you finished streaming you put the archive members only. That is the only way to not get copy strikes.

Linus, you need to revisit poco phone f1. Believe me! Especially we just got miui 12. One of my best purchase ever. In europe there are no ads on the phone, they are just charged a bit extra when I bought it. Ofc it's not the best of the best but honestly a really good phone. 4k60 easy, all of the stuff which was wanky fixed

When I was streaming persona 4 when it dropped on steam I only streamed the first part of the story and every other time I just streamed the dungeon because the dev asked not to spoil the story for new players

As another comment on the effect that streaming has on the story or experience of the game. Bithell Games for "Thomas was alone" put a note in there specifically for streamers thanking them for their interest and sharing it. They just requested that they advise the audience that at the halfway point in the game, it's meant to be experienced a certain way and by watching it you may be spoiling it for themselves, etc. etc. That I think is a really good way to reach out to streamers if the developer is worried about their game being spoiled and such.

“Fair use” is a defence in copyright infringement. So like Linus said about Nintendo, legally you begin in the “wrong”. The defence is used to make an argument for why you deserve to use the content.

Even when it comes to streaming single player narrative games I think there are 3 major types of viewers: "I have no particular interest in this game, but I want to watch my favorite streamer play something." and they view up to the whole game on stream "I am interested in the game, but to check out if it's worth buying / want to watch my favorite streamer play something" and they view the stream and may or may not make a purchase bsed on the content they see. "I may have purchased this game, but instead I'll watch my favorite streamer play it" and experience the entire game vicariously through teh streamer. I feel that last type of viewer is very rare, especially when it comes to very long single player games. Sure SOME people might watch every video (that may reach up to 50+ 30 min videos), but i doubt that would ever happen in such a number to convince a significant amount of potential buyers away from buying it. I think if this DOES happen it's usually for a controversial game. That's my take.

Regarding converting a PDF to Excel - which Linus seemed rather baffled by. In the logistics industry where e.g. purchase orders/packing lists (containing a list of items and item information) are sometimes sent between companies in PDF form. Being able to convert that to Excel for upload to an internal system, instead of manually copying or (god forbid) transcribing the values is an EXTREMELY valuable tool. (Why this information is sent in PDF form in the first place usually involves antiquated technology/practices and a resistance to change)

If you buy a game, aren't you also buying a license to play it? Not every streamer gets their games for free; certainly not the smaller channels. And then bigger channels get sent games by developers explicitly to play. Hutchinson is a bit of a dumbass.

I'm glad that y'all explained the fair use laws. Things like this seem to be like the wild west, at least for now. (To be clear, I can only speak for American law) But, in the end, whatever the court decides is the law for that particular incident. (Unless you appeal I guess?)

I completely and utterly disagree with the idea that music cannot be transformed by visuals. There are several songs that I hated until I saw a music video of it. And typically the video was fan-made rather than of the official one.

Linus !!! Can tech industry start speaking up about lack of anti cheat on pc? Pc online gaming is getting destroyed at moment due to lack of anti cheat. Bfv is so bad now its unplayable..level 500 cheaters u report for a year and nothing happens. Contacted ea with complaint and proof of cheaters and they say press report button...complete joke.ea yells about bf6 ....after cheater infested bfv EAbcan eat my shorts.

Half of the games I play are because of the videos/highlights I watch from streamers that also upload on CScrone. Edit: Not to mention that 2/3 of the time Im watching the streamer and his friends being idiots rather than the game/gameplay.

Walking simulators are not even really a game. Especially ones that only take a couple hours to even get through. So that is incredibly niche and no actual evidence showing their sales hurt cuz people watch a streamer play a game. Also there are plenty of single player games that get streamed and still sell well enough or most times even better

14:10 - Long single player games like that need preorders and backing during the development phase. Look at Cyan worlds (creators of Myst, Riven, Obduction and so on). The games get TOTALLY ruined by someone streaming it, since its main element is to figure things out. They create games based on pre backing. Their next game Firmament looks great. So yes. Its possible to create games like that, but you need to start building up hype BEFORE the game is out and start selling the game before people get spoiled on the internet. People who preorder or preback a game like that will try to avoid getting spoiled by things online when its released.

I am pretty sure Proshop ships to all Nordic countries, or atleast Scandinavia. I bought my graphics card from their Swedish site. If you count only scandinavian population it's around 21 million.

Mcdonald's ice cream machine is never broken it is more that every person coming through is ordering ice cream not leaving enough time for it to cool down enough after we refill. It just comes out as the milk and it is easier to just tell customers that it is broken.
